What is Machine Quilting

Machine quilting is a modern day process that you may favor for finishing your pieced and applique'd quilt tops. The machine that I use is a very large (14' x 6') and has a 90lb. sewing machine that glides across the table bed. The sewing machine itself is hand guided over the quilt to complete the stitching. The speed, swiftness and accuracy of the operator determine the stitch length and overall stitch quality.

Although machine quilting has been around for more than 40 years (in this same format), it has only been recently that quilters have taken advantage of this fast and professional service. Machine quilting will never replace the tradition of hand quilting. However, this method of finishing quilt tops allows quilters the opportunity to continue piecing exciting and colorful quilt tops for family, friends and charity. As the demand for quality quilting increases so do the quilters options for patterns and designs.

What Are My Designs Options?

Custom machine quilting offers many options to enhance your overall quilting design. It is important to consider all of the options available when making your final decision. The quilting needs to bring the quilt to life while keeping the piece practical.

Overall pattern quilting is a common design choice. there are many pictorial patterns to choose from which can emphasize your fabrics and design. These patterns are quilted from edge to edge and make a great utilitarian quilt. You many decide to take the ultimate challenge and customize your quilt top with centered motifs, borders, stippling, stitch in the ditch and trapunto. The opportunities are endless!!

Each of my clients are encouraged to have a free design consultation. During the discussion I will ask many questions in an attempt to learn the "story" of the quilt and what the future use of the quilt will be. This information helps me to make suggestions that may make your quilt the 1st place winner in a show or a favorite family heirloom.
